How a Mood Tracker is helpful
Melanie Chan – Psychologist
A mood tracker is a tool that we use to log our moods and emotions at consistent intervals (e.g. every morning before school or evening after school). The aim of using the mood tracker is to help us lookout for patterns in how our moods may differ over time and identify the different situations and circumstances that impacted our moods.
The mood tracker can be helpful to:
- identify patterns and understand changes in mood
- develop different strategies to manage low moods
- determine if our strategies and intervention are helping us improve our mood
Along with this post is a simple mood tracker in the form of a calendar. This helps the individual track their mood across the month. Different colours can be used to associate with different emotions. In the example provided, we are using the colours from the zones of regulation. Each day can also have more than one colour. Please feel free to use your own colour chart tailored to your needs.
